Biography
Timo Glock was born in Lindenfels on 18 March 1982. He began his motorsport career in 1998 at the age of 15, won the BMW ADAC Formula Junior Cup in 2000 and the Formula BMW ADAC title in 2001. In 2002 he finished third in German Formula Three and was named rookie of the year, and in 2003 he took fifth in the Formula Three Euro Series with three wins. In 2004 he was a test driver for Jordan and made his Formula One debut at the Canadian Grand Prix. He crossed the line eleventh, but the disqualification of the Williams and Toyota cars lifted him to seventh and earned him two points. He also drove the last three races of the year for Jordan. In 2005 he moved to Champ Car with Rocketsports, finishing eighth overall and winning rookie of the year. He raced in GP2 in 2006, ending the year fourth, and won the title with iSport in 2007.
Glock returned to Formula One in 2008, replacing Ralf Schumacher at Toyota. He took fourth in Canada, second in Hungary and fourth in Singapore. In the season finale in Brazil, he was running fourth on the last lap on dry tyres as rain intensified. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton passed him and he finished sixth, which gave Hamilton the world title. Glock ended the year tenth in the championship with 25 points, behind team-mate Jarno Trulli.
In 2009 he finished fourth in Australia after Hamilton's disqualification, having started from 19th because of an illegal rear wing. In Malaysia he took third in wet conditions, in a race that was stopped early. In Singapore he was second behind Hamilton. He was tenth in the championship again. He crashed heavily in qualifying in Japan and could not take part in the race. Toyota withdrew from Formula One at the end of the year.
Glock drove for Virgin in 2010 and 2011, the team that grew out of Manor. His best result in 2010 was 14th in Japan. In 2012 he raced for Marussia, with twelfth in Singapore as his best finish, and ended the season 20th in the standings. He left the team before the 2013 season. In total he started 91 races and stood on the podium three times. He then joined BMW in the DTM, where he won five races between 2013 and 2021, and he returned to the series with McLaren in 2025. He also competed in the Porsche Supercup and worked as a television pundit, for RTL from 2018 to 2020 and for Sky Sport from 2021.
