Biography

Jüri Vips was born in Tallinn in 2000 and began karting in 2011. In 2014 he won the Junior class at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals. In 2016 he made his car racing debut with Prema in Italian F4 and ADAC Formula 4, and was Italian F4 rookie champion. In 2017 he won the ADAC Formula 4 title with Prema, settled in the final race at Hockenheim.

In 2018 he finished fourth in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Motopark, taking three poles and four wins. He was part of the Red Bull Junior Team from November 2018. In the new FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2019 he drove for Hitech Grand Prix, won feature races at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone and a sprint race at Sochi, and again ended the year fourth. At the 2019 Macau Grand Prix he started from pole and finished second.

In 2020 he replaced the injured Sean Gelael at DAMS in Formula 2. In November he received his Super Licence after a test in the Red Bull RB8 and served as reserve driver for Red Bull and AlphaTauri at four Grands Prix. In 2021 he finished sixth in Formula 2 with Hitech, with 120 points, two wins and six podiums. At Baku he became the first driver to win two Formula 2 races in one weekend. In 2022 he was eleventh with 114 points and won the sprint race at Monza. At the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix he took Sergio Pérez's place in free practice for Red Bull. His time in the Red Bull programme ended in 2022. He never started a Formula 1 race.

In 2023 he made his IndyCar debut with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the last two races of the season, finishing eighteenth at Portland. In August 2024 it was announced that he would drive for RLL at Portland again, this time in the No. 75 car. At the start of 2026 he was confirmed to make his GTD Pro debut in the 24 Hours of Daytona with RLL Team McLaren.
