Biography

The Swiss driver Giorgio Mondini was born in Geneva on 19 July 1980. He started racing at the age of 20 with no karting background, competing in the Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup with Jenzer Motorsport and finishing 26th in the standings. In 2002 he improved to 17th with the same team. In 2003 he moved up to the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup with EuroInternational and took seventh place. In 2004 he won the title, with three victories, three pole positions and eight podium finishes.

In 2005 he moved to GP2, replacing Ryan Sharp at DPR, but he scored no points and was not classified in the standings. As a reward for winning the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup, he drove a Renault R25 in December 2005. In 2006 he was one of Midland F1 Racing's third drivers and tested at nine of the 18 race weekends. In February 2011 he tested for Hispania Racing in Barcelona. He never took part in a Formula One World Championship race.

From 2009 he raced prototypes. That year he competed in the Le Mans Series and made his Le Mans 24 Hours debut in a Kolles Audi R10 TDI, sharing the car with Christian Bakkerud and Christijan Albers. They started 13th and finished ninth overall. After a four-year break from racing, he won the 2015 Italian Prototype Challenge. He began the season in the CN4 class and switched to CN2 from the fourth race, winning nine of the remaining eleven races and taking seven pole positions. In 2016 he joined EuroInternational in the European Le Mans Series, competing in the LMP3 class. He stayed with the team in 2017 and took his first class win at the Red Bull Ring, after the car that crossed the line first was given a late penalty. In 2018 he returned to the series and, alongside Kay van Berlo, added another class win at Monza. The team finished seventh in the standings in both 2017 and 2018.
