Ricardo
Londoño
Biography
Ricardo Londoño was born in Medellín in 1949. In the 1970s he raced stock cars and motorcycles in Colombia and won national championships in several classes. He moved to North America in 1979 and entered the IMSA GT Championship. In 1980 he finished seventh overall in the 24 Hours of Daytona and took twelfth place in the Can-Am standings with a Lola.
At the end of 1980 he finished seventh in a round of the British Formula One Championship at Silverstone. In 1981 Ensign entered him for the Brazilian Grand Prix. During the acclimatisation session he collided with Keke Rosberg, was refused a super licence and did not start the race. Marc Surer took over the car. Even so, Londoño was the first Colombian to take part in a Formula One race weekend. In 1981 he also contested three Formula Two races, with ninth at Pau his best result, and he raced in the IMSA GT Championship until 1986.
