Biography
Pierre-Henri Raphanel was born in Algiers on 27 May 1961 and raced in Formula One as a Frenchman. He was first entered for Lola in November 1988 but did not start. In 1989 he was entered 16 times for Coloni and Rial, yet he qualified only once, for the Monaco Grand Prix. That makes him the only driver in Formula One history whose single race took place in Monaco. In total he had 17 entries and one start.
After Formula One he became a factory driver for Toyota in Japan, taking part in the JTCC and, until 2000, the JGTC. After 2006 he worked as chief test driver and product specialist for Bugatti. In July 2010 he drove the Veyron Super Sport to its top speed of 431.072 km/h at Ehra-Lessien. His nephew Julien Gerbi is also a racing driver.
