Biography
Héctor Rebaque was born in Mexico City on 5 February 1956. He arrived in Formula One in 1977, the first Mexican in the category since the death of Pedro Rodríguez in 1971. He was entered for six races with Hesketh that year but started only one.
In 1978 he set up his own team, which began by running a privately entered Lotus 78. In the last three races of the 1979 season he ran the Rebaque HR100, which was built in collaboration with Penske. Midway through 1980 he replaced Ricardo Zunino alongside Nelson Piquet at Brabham and stayed with the team until the end of 1981, when he finished tenth in the championship, his best placing. He made 58 entries and 41 starts in total, without reaching the podium.
In 1982 he moved to CART with Forsythe Racing, finished 13th in the Indianapolis 500 and won the race at Road America. A week later he crashed in testing at Michigan and gave up racing on ovals as a result. His final race was the 1983 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch, a non-championship Formula One event, driving for Brabham. He then retired from racing aged 27.
