Biography
Gastón Mazzacane, born on 8 May 1975 in La Plata, is an Argentine racing driver. He was a test driver for Minardi in 1999 and was given a race seat alongside Marc Gené for 2000. His debut at the Australian Grand Prix ended with a gearbox failure. He finished tenth in Brazil and 11th at the German Grand Prix. He started all 17 races of the 2000 season and ended the world championship in 21st place.
In 2001 he moved to Prost, taking the seat of Nick Heidfeld, who had left for Sauber. His time there lasted four races: the San Marino Grand Prix was his final Grand Prix, and Luciano Burti took over the car afterwards. He was classified 25th in the championship and made 21 starts in total. For 2002 he signed with the re-formed DART team (also known as Phoenix), but it was barred from racing. He drove for Dale Coyne Racing in the second half of the 2004 Champ Car season. He also raced in Turismo Carretera and became the first champion of the TC Pick Up class in 2018. After him, no Argentine drove in Formula One until the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, when Franco Colapinto raced for Williams.
