Juncadella
Biography
Daniel Juncadella was born in Barcelona into a racing family. His father Xavier Juncadella and his uncles José María Juncadella, Alex Soler-Roig and Luis Pérez-Sala were all racing drivers, and Pérez-Sala drove for Minardi in Formula One in 1988 and 1989. Juncadella started karting in 2004 and finished runner-up in the 2007 Master Junior Formula with seven wins. In Formula BMW Europe he was fourth in 2008, then second in 2009 behind his team-mate Felipe Nasr. He stepped up to the Formula 3 Euro Series with Prema in 2010. He also won the Macau Grand Prix and a Formula 3 title.
He never started a Formula One world championship race. He tested for Williams at the Young Drivers test at Silverstone, setting the fifth-fastest time on the first day. On 24 January 2014 he became a reserve driver for Force India and took part in Friday practice sessions. For the 2025 season he joined Aston Martin, the successor to Force India, as a simulator driver.
In touring cars and GT racing he raced, among other roles, as a Mercedes-AMG factory driver. He drove for Mercedes in the DTM in 2013, and on his return in 2018 he took three pole positions and two podiums, including a win at Brands Hatch, finishing 15th overall. In 2019 he drove for Aston Martin in the DTM and finished 14th, then ninth in 2021 in a GruppeM Racing Mercedes. In 2022 he contested the full GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with AKKodis ASP alongside Raffaele Marciello and Jules Gounon. The trio won the Spa 24 Hours and the season finale in Barcelona, taking the title. In the Intercontinental GT Challenge he also drove all four rounds in 2022, winning at Indianapolis as well as Spa, finishing second at the Bathurst 12 Hours and taking the drivers' championship. In 2023 he raced in the GTD Pro class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship with Jules Gounon. Together with Maro Engel, they won the class at the Daytona 24 Hours and at Petit Le Mans, took the Michelin Endurance Cup and finished second in the GTD Pro standings.
