Biography
Bruno Senna was born in São Paulo on 15 October 1983 and is a nephew of three-time World Champion Ayrton Senna. He started karting at the age of five. In 2004 he contested six races of the British Formula BMW series for Carlin. In 2005 he moved up to British Formula Three with Räikkönen Robertson Racing and finished tenth, then took third in the 2006 standings with five wins. In 2007 he drove for Arden in GP2, where one win and three podiums put him in the top ten of the table. For iSport in 2008 he won the feature race at Monte Carlo and ended the year as runner-up to Giorgio Pantano. In 2009 he raced for Oreca in the Le Mans Series.
Senna made his Formula One debut with HRT in 2010, initially alongside Karun Chandhok. Sakon Yamamoto took his seat for the British Grand Prix, and Senna came back for the German round. He started 18 races and finished 23rd in the championship. In 2011 he began the year as Renault's test and reserve driver and took over Nick Heidfeld's car from the Belgian Grand Prix. At Spa he qualified seventh and finished 13th, and at Monza he scored his first points with ninth place. In the season finale, his home race in Brazil, he started ninth. Across eight races he ended the season 18th overall.
In 2012 Senna drove for Williams alongside Pastor Maldonado. He finished sixth in Malaysia for eight points, seventh in China, and set the fastest lap in Belgium. He ended the year 16th on 31 points, after which Williams chose Valtteri Bottas for 2013. In total Senna made 46 starts, with no wins and no podiums. In July 2012 he received the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy.
After Formula One, Senna raced for Aston Martin Racing in the World Endurance Championship and at Le Mans from 2013, and won at Silverstone. From 2014 to 2016 he drove for Mahindra in Formula E, and in 2015 he became a factory driver for McLaren's GT3 programme. In 2017 he won the LMP2 title with Julien Canal for Rebellion Racing, decided in the last race in Bahrain. He also worked as a television pundit for Sky Sports in 2014 and for Channel 4 in 2016, and in 2022 he became a development pilot and ambassador for the Airspeeder series.
