Bob Said, whose full name was Boris Robert Said Jr., was born in New York City in 1932 and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1951 he left Princeton University to become a racing driver. He became the first American to win a road race in Europe after the Second World War, taking a sports car race at Rouen-Les-Essarts in an OSCA. In 1955 he set a speed record at Daytona Beach in a 1954 Ferrari Grand Prix car.
His only Formula One start came at the 1959 United States Grand Prix at Sebring, driving for Connaught. He spun off on the opening lap and finished without any World Championship points. That same year he also took part in the Daytona 500 in NASCAR. He later competed in bobsleigh at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble and the 1972 Games in Sapporo, with a best result of tenth place.
