TOSFED İstanbul Park is in the Tuzla district on the Asian side of Istanbul, close to Sabiha Gökçen airport. Hermann Tilke designed the circuit, which opened in August 2005. It was originally called İstanbul Park and has carried its present name since 2025. The lap is 5.338 km long with 14 corners and is run anticlockwise. The start/finish straight is more than 650 m long, the track width varies between 14 and 21.5 m, and the lap takes in four different ground levels. The venue can hold around 125,000 spectators.
Turn 8 is a fast, sweeping left-hander with four apexes. The forces acting on the cars there help give the circuit a reputation for wearing out tyres quickly. Because of the anticlockwise direction, the other side of the drivers' necks is strained more than at most circuits. Turn 1 is a tight downhill left-hander straight after the start/finish straight.
The first Turkish Grand Prix of the Formula One World Championship took place in 2005 and was won by Kimi Räikkönen for McLaren. The race was held every year until 2011. Felipe Massa won for Ferrari in 2006, 2007 and 2008, followed by Jenson Button for Brawn in 2009, Lewis Hamilton for McLaren in 2010 and Sebastian Vettel for Red Bull in 2011. After 2011 there was no race for a while. The circuit returned in 2020 after a nine-year break: Hamilton won for Mercedes and the drivers' championship was decided. In 2021 the race joined the calendar in place of the cancelled Singapore Grand Prix, and Valtteri Bottas won for Mercedes. MotoGP also raced at the circuit from 2005 to 2007.
