Biography
Wolfgang Seidel was born in Dresden in 1926 and was a German racing driver. He often entered cars under his own name or for Scuderia Colonia. In 1959 he won the Targa Florio with Edgar Barth in a Porsche 718 RSK, which gave Porsche its first victory in a World Sports Car Championship race.
He made his Formula One debut on 2 August 1953 in a Veritas. His next appearances came in 1958, with Cooper and Maserati. He drove a Cooper in 1960, a Lotus in 1961, and Emeryson and Lotus cars in 1962. His 13 entries led to ten starts, and he scored no points.
At the 1962 German Grand Prix he was refused a start because of his practice laps. A dispute with officials of the Automobilclub von Deutschland followed, and his licence was then withdrawn. A few months later he still took part in the non-championship Mexican Grand Prix. Seidel died in 1987.
