Biography
Wayne Weiler was born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1934 and began racing on dirt tracks in Arizona in 1951. Between 1958 and 1961 he made 19 starts in the USAC Championship Car series, with a third place at Phoenix in 1960 as his best result. That same year he started the Indianapolis 500, which counted towards the Drivers' World Championship from 1950 to 1960. Driving an Epperly, he took part in his only World Championship race and scored no points. In 1961 he finished 15th at Indianapolis.
In June 1961 Weiler was involved in a serious accident in a sprint car race at Terre Haute, Indiana. He did return to racing, but no longer at national level or in USAC. From the late 1960s until 1973 he raced mainly in Arizona and in midgets. He stayed active in motor racing as an owner and manager until his death in Phoenix in 2005.
