Biography
Tony Marsh was born in Stourbridge in 1931 and made his name above all in hillclimbing. He began in 1953 with a Cooper-JAP that Peter Collins had driven before him. He won the British Hill Climb Championship three years running from 1955 to 1957, and three more titles followed between 1965 and 1967. In the 1960s he also built a car of his own, which carried the Marsh name.
In Formula One he was entered with Cooper in 1957 and 1958 and with Lotus in 1961, making four starts. His last World Championship race was the 1961 German Grand Prix in a Lotus 18. In 1960 he also took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours, sharing a Lotus Elite with John Wagstaff. After a break he returned to motorsport in 1986 and continued to compete in hillclimbs until 2008. He died in 2009.
