Biography
Antonio "Toni" Branca was born in Sion on 15 September 1916 and was a Swiss racing driver. He started three Formula One World Championship races, all in a Maserati. He made his debut at the 1950 Swiss Grand Prix, finishing 11th, and took tenth place at the Belgian Grand Prix. In 1951 he retired from the German Grand Prix. Outside the championship, he briefly led the Circuit des Nations in Geneva in a Simca-Gordini. In smaller races he finished in the top six several times, his best result being fourth in a Formula Two race at Aix-les-Bains. In 1951 he finished sixth at the Pescara Grand Prix. He ended his Grand Prix career at the end of 1951.
Until the mid-1950s he continued to compete in hillclimbs. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, his Moretti 750cc was not ready in time in 1955, and in 1956 the car broke down before it was his turn to drive. Branca died in Sierre on 10 May 1985.
