Biography
Tomáš Enge was born in Liberec on 11 September 1976. He began racing at sixteen, entering the Czechoslovak Ford Fiesta Cup in a Fiesta that he had bought himself. He went on to race in International Formula 3000, among other series.
In Formula One, Enge contested the final three races of the 2001 season for Prost. He made his debut at the Italian Grand Prix on 16 September. He joined the team because Luciano Burti was recovering from his crash at the previous round in Belgium. Enge thus became the first driver from the Czech Republic to compete in Formula One. He left Prost before the team folded for the 2002 season.
In 2005 he moved to America to race in the IRL for Panther Racing. Among his seventeen starts in the series was the 2005 Indianapolis 500, his first start in that race. He also drove for Team Czech Republic in the 2005-06 A1GP season. In sports cars, Enge made nine appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, often for Prodrive's teams. In 2009 he won the Le Mans Series LMP1 title with Aston Martin Racing, sharing the car with Stefan Mücke and Jan Charouz. In 2010 he finished fourth in the FIA GT1 World Championship alongside Darren Turner, with three victories.
He later turned to rally raids. On his Dakar Rally debut in Saudi Arabia in January 2021, he finished tenth in his class despite mechanical problems.
