Biography
Silvio Moser was born in Zürich on 24 April 1941. He began racing in the early 1960s with Alfa Romeos and moved into single-seaters in 1964. He did well in European Formula Three and in the Temporada Series, which he won.
In Formula One, he tried to qualify for the 1966 German Grand Prix in a Formula Two Brabham entered in his own name, but an engine failure in practice ruled out a start. He made his debut on 15 July 1967 at the British Grand Prix, driving a Cooper-ATS for the Vögele Team. In 1968 he raced a Brabham-Repco, and in 1969 a privately entered Brabham-Cosworth, finishing 16th in the World Championship. He drove the Bellasi-Cosworth in 1970 and made one further appearance in 1971. In all, he made 12 starts and scored three championship points.
In 1970 Moser won the St. Ursanne-Les Rangiers and Kerenzerberg hillclimbs with Bellasi. After the Bellasi project came to an end, he returned to Formula Two, driving a Brabham in 1971 and 1972 and a Surtees in 1973. He took second place in the Lottery GP at Monza. Moser died on 26 May 1974 as a result of an accident in the 1000 km sports car race at Monza, where he was driving a Lola T294-BMW.
