Biography
Sergey Sirotkin was born in Moscow on 27 August 1995 and took up karting in 2008. In 2011 he won the European title in Formula Abarth. After spells in Auto GP, Italian Formula 3 and Formula Renault 3.5, he moved up to GP2 in 2015 and finished third overall in his first season with Rapax. In 2016 he again took third in the standings, this time with ART Grand Prix.
He had been a Sauber test driver since 2013 and took part in free practice at the 2014 Russian Grand Prix. From 2016 he worked as a development driver and in 2017 as a reserve driver for Renault. After a test in Abu Dhabi, he was given a Williams race seat for 2018, replacing Felipe Massa and partnering Lance Stroll. He made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix. At Monza he crossed the line eleventh and was promoted to tenth when Romain Grosjean was disqualified. That remained his only championship point, and he ended the year 20th in the standings after 21 starts.
Sirotkin was a reserve driver for both McLaren and Renault in 2019 and stayed with Renault in that role in 2020. After his time in Formula One he moved into sportscar racing, including the World Endurance Championship and the GT World Challenge Europe.
