Biography
Rudolf Krause was born in 1907 in Reichenbach im Vogtland. He began racing on motorcycles in 1927 and moved to self-modified cars at the start of the 1930s. He set up his own workshop in his garage in Reichenbach and raced a BMW sports car of his own. His formula racing career began in 1949. Between 1950 and 1953 he finished in the leading positions several times, and in 1953 he won the East German Formula Two championship, mostly in BMW cars that were partly built in his workshop.
In the Formula One World Championship, Krause started two races, driving for Reif in 1952 and for Greifzu in 1953. He scored no points, and his only classified finish was 14th in the 1953 German Grand Prix. He retired in 1954, mainly because of his age, and died in 1987.
