Biography
Robert O'Brien was born in 1908 in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. He raced mainly sports cars in the United States, and at the 1952 12 Hours of Sebring he finished fourth in a Ferrari 166 MM, sharing the car with Richard Cicurel.
Through contacts in Belgium, he later took part in a few events in Europe. At the 1952 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps he drove a Simca-Gordini T15, his only start in the Formula One World Championship. He was the slowest of the 22 entrants in qualifying and came home 14th of the 15 drivers who reached the finish. He then drove the same car in a race at the Grenzlandring in Germany, where he retired, before returning to the United States. O'Brien died in Hackensack, New Jersey, in 1987.
