Biography
Piero Drogo was born in Vignale Monferrato on 8 August 1926. He moved to Venezuela, where his racing career began in sports cars. His earliest recorded result is an overall win at the 1956 Premio Nacional Ciudad de Maracay, driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. In 1958 he returned to Italy and settled in Modena. His sports car appearances included the 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 1959 Targa Florio.
Drogo took part in one Formula One World Championship race, the 1960 Italian Grand Prix, driving a Cooper. He finished eighth and scored no championship points. He also raced in several non-championship events that year. In 1960 he also became a partner in the Modena coachbuilder Carrozzeria Sports Cars, which operated until the end of 1971. His responsibilities were administration, sales and public relations, and he did not design the bodywork himself. Drogo died in a road accident near Bologna on 28 April 1973, aged 46.
