Biography
Piero Carini was born in Genoa on 6 March 1921. In 1950 he finished third in the Modena Grand Prix, which was run to Formula Two rules that year, driving an OSCA. For 1952 he was taken on by Scuderia Marzotto to drive their Ferrari cars.
In the Formula One World Championship, Carini started two races for Ferrari in 1952 and retired from both. In 1953 he was a works Ferrari driver alongside Umberto Maglioli, but he contested only the Italian Grand Prix, which brought his total to three World Championship starts. He then moved to Alfa Romeo, taking class wins in the Mille Miglia, the Tour of Sicily and the Dolomite Cup in 1954. In 1955 he added class wins in a Ferrari at Dakar and Caracas, and in an OSCA at the Targa Florio. Carini died on 30 May 1957 in a crash during a sports car race near Saint-Étienne, France.
