Biography

Philippe Streiff was born on 26 June 1955 in La Tronche, France. His racing career included European Formula Three, European Formula Two, International Formula 3000 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He made his Formula One debut on 21 October 1984 with Renault. In 1985 he contested five races for Ligier and Tyrrell, and in 1986 and 1987 he started 16 races each season for Tyrrell. He finished 13th in the 1986 World Championship, his best placing in the standings. In 1988 he drove for AGS and again started 16 races. In total he made 54 starts and took one podium finish.

During pre-season testing for 1989, Streiff had a serious accident in an AGS at the Jacarepaguá circuit in Rio de Janeiro. He used a wheelchair afterwards. From 1993 to 2001 he organised the Masters of Paris-Bercy, a kart racing event run in collaboration with the FFSA. Philippe Streiff died on 23 December 2022 in Puteaux, aged 67.
