Biography
Onofre Marimón was born on 19 December 1923 in Zárate, Argentina. His father, Domingo Marimón, was also a racing driver and won the 1948 South American Grand Prix for Turismo Carretera. Domingo was a friend and team-mate of Juan Manuel Fangio, who became a mentor to the son when he moved to Europe.
Between 1951 and 1954 Marimón drove for Maserati in Formula One: one race in 1951, all six of his entries in 1953 and four of five in 1954. He made 11 starts and finished on the podium twice, at the 1953 Belgian Grand Prix and the 1954 British Grand Prix. He ended 1953 eleventh in the championship. Outside the world championship, he won the 1954 Rome Grand Prix in a Maserati 250F.
Marimón died on 31 July 1954 during practice for the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
