Biography
Neville Lederle was born on 25 September 1938 in Theunissen in the Orange Free State and raced for South Africa. In 1962 he finished fifth in the Rand Grand Prix and fourth in the Natal Grand Prix in a Climax-powered Lotus 21. In 1963 he won the South African drivers' championship.
His only World Championship start came in the 1962 South African Grand Prix for Lotus. He finished sixth, earning one championship point and 18th place in the standings. In 1963 he was injured in practice for the Rand 9 Hours sports car race and missed a large part of the 1964 season. He returned at the end of that year and finished tenth in the Rand Grand Prix. He was entered by Lotus again for the 1965 South African Grand Prix but narrowly failed to qualify. After that, he effectively ended his racing career. Lederle died in Knysna on 17 May 2019.
