Naoki
Hattori
Biography
Naoki Hattori was born in Yokkaichi, Japan, on 13 June 1966. He won the Japanese Formula 3 championship in 1990. The following year he was entered by Coloni in Formula One as a late-season replacement for Pedro Chaves. He failed to pre-qualify on both of his two entries, so he never started a Grand Prix.
He carried on racing in other categories. In the mid-1990s he competed in Indy Lights, and in 1999 he had a short spell in CART with Walker Racing, where 14th place was his best finish. In 1996 he won the Japanese Touring Car Championship in a Mooncraft Honda Accord. In 1991 he also won the Spa 24 Hours for Nismo in a Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R, sharing the car with David Brabham and Anders Olofsson. Hattori also works as a motoring journalist.
