Biography
Michael John Clifford Taylor, known as Mike, was born in London on 24 April 1934. The British driver made his Formula One World Championship debut on 18 July 1959, driving a Cooper. It was his only championship start, and he scored no points. He also took part in several non-championship Formula One races.
In 1960 he was entered by Lotus. At the Belgian Grand Prix his Lotus 18 crashed after the weld on its steering column failed. He never made it to the start of the race, and his racing career was effectively over. Afterwards he occasionally contested long-distance rallies, finishing third in the 1977 London-Sydney Marathon in a Citroën CX alongside Paddy Hopkirk and Bob Riley. Mike Taylor died on 4 April 2017.
