Biography
Marcel Balsa was born in 1909 in Creuse, France. He began racing after the Second World War, buying a Bugatti Type 51 and competing in French national events. He later built a Formula 2 car powered by a BMW engine.
Driving a Jicey-BMW developed by Jean Caillas, he finished third at the Grand Prix of Cadours, the meeting at which Raymond Sommer was killed. Balsa then went back to his earlier car. In 1952 he started the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring in a Balsa, his only race in the Formula One World Championship, and retired after six laps. In 1953 he won a race at Montlhéry. Balsa died in 1984.
