Ludwig
Fischer
Biography
Ludwig Fischer was born in Straubing in 1915. He began racing in 1950 with hillclimbs, then moved on to sports cars and endurance events. He also contested several Formula Two races in an AFM-BMW. Into the early 1960s he competed mainly in German Formula Two, as well as in hillclimbs and Formula Junior.
His only entry in the Formula One World Championship came at the 1952 German Grand Prix, driving an AFM. He qualified 31st among 32 entrants, but the organisers judged that he, Willi Krakau and Harry Merkel were not competent enough to start, so Fischer never started a championship race.
In 1953 there was an incident with B Bira during a race at Chimay, and Fischer's licence was suspended. He had raced without the permission of the ONS, which suspended his licence until after that year's German Grand Prix. Further suspensions followed later in his career. He retired in 1964 and published an autobiography in 1966.
