Biography
John Rhodes was born in Wolverhampton on 18 August 1927. In 1961 he raced a Cooper-BMC in Formula Junior for the Midland Racing Partnership, winning a long race at Phoenix Park in Dublin on 22 July and the Dunboyne Trophy a week later. In 1962 he drove Bob Gerard's Cooper-Ford at Mallory Park.
His only start in the Formula One World Championship came at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 10 July 1965. Bob Gerard supplied him with a Cooper T60 Climax for the race, and Rhodes retired on lap 39 with ignition problems.
In the same year he finished twelfth overall at Le Mans with Paul Hawkins in an Austin-Healey Sprite, winning their class. In 1966 he shared an MG B with Timo Mäkinen at the Targa Florio, finishing ninth overall and again taking the class win.
