Biography
The British driver John Martin James was born in Packwood on 10 May 1914 and died on 27 January 2002. By profession he was an engineer. He bought a Maserati 4CLT/48 and entered it for the 1951 British Grand Prix, a round of the Formula One World Championship.
That race was his only World Championship start. He retired after 23 laps with a damaged radiator. Because of rule changes, his Maserati was restricted to Formula Libre races from 1952. James took part in a number of sprint races after that and then retired from racing.
