Biography
Jean-Marc Gounon, born on 1 January 1963, is a French racing driver. He won the French Formula 3 Championship in 1989 and moved up to International Formula 3000 in 1990. There he won races in 1991 with a RALT and in 1992 with a Lola, and in those two seasons he was the only driver to win in a car other than a Reynard.
In 1993 he was originally signed to race for March in Formula One, but the team collapsed at the start of the season. Later that year he made two starts for Minardi: he was withdrawn from the race at Suzuka, and he spun off in the season finale in Adelaide. In 1994 he drove seven races for Simtek and finished ninth at the French Grand Prix, his home event. Domenico Schiattarella replaced him after the Portuguese Grand Prix, which ended his Formula One career after nine starts. Gounon later raced sports cars. His son Jules Gounon is also a racing driver.
