Biography

Jack Doohan was born on 20 January 2003 in Gold Coast, Australia. His father, Mick Doohan, won five 500cc motorcycle world titles. Jack began karting in 2012, won the Australian championship in 2015 and 2016, and finished third in the CIK-FIA European Championship in 2017. That September he joined the Red Bull Junior Team. He moved into single-seaters in 2018 with the British F4 Championship, taking three wins and finishing fifth. He was twice runner-up in the Asian F3 Championship. In 2020 he failed to score in FIA Formula 3, but in 2021 he finished second to Dennis Hauger with Trident. At Spa-Francorchamps he won two races in one weekend, the first driver in that series to do so.

Doohan made his Formula 2 debut with MP Motorsport at the final two rounds of 2021. He left the Red Bull programme after that season and joined the Alpine Academy in 2022. In 2022 he finished sixth for Virtuosi Racing with three wins. He stayed with the team in 2023, won three more races and finished third overall. He was Alpine's reserve driver in 2023 and 2024 and took part in several first practice sessions.

In August 2024 Alpine announced that Doohan would replace Esteban Ocon for 2025. He was the first Alpine Academy driver to reach Formula One. His debut came early, at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in place of Ocon: he qualified 20th and finished 15th. In 2025 he partnered Pierre Gasly. His season opener in Australia ended in a crash on the first lap. He finished 13th in China, 15th in Japan and 14th in Bahrain, then retired from the Miami Grand Prix after a first-lap collision. Franco Colapinto then took his seat. Doohan started seven races in all without scoring a point, and he ended 2025 21st in the drivers' standings. Early in 2026 he parted ways with Alpine. For 2026 he became a reserve driver at Haas and competed for Nielsen Racing in the LMP2 class of the European Le Mans Series.
