Biography
Ingo Hoffmann was born in São Paulo on 28 February 1953. He began racing in Brazil in Formula Vee and saloon cars, then moved to England in 1975 to contest Formula Three in a March.
He stepped up to Formula One with Fittipaldi in 1976 and made his debut on 25 January that year. He was entered four times that season but qualified for only one race, finishing eleventh at Interlagos. In 1977 he started both races for which he was entered: he retired with an engine failure in Buenos Aires, then finished seventh at Interlagos, two laps behind the winner. After that race the team's second car was no longer run. In total he was entered six times and started three Grands Prix.
In 1977 and 1978 Hoffmann raced in Formula Two for Project Four, driving both a Ralt and a March, and 1978 was his final year in Europe. He also took part in sports car and saloon car racing in both Europe and South America. In the Brazilian Stock Car Championship he won the title twelve times: in 1980, 1985, 1989 to 1994, 1996 to 1998 and 2002. In December 2006 he took his 100th win at Brazilian circuits in Brasília, in the last race of that season.
