Biography
Ian Stewart was born in Edinburgh on 15 July 1929. He became known for racing a Jaguar XK120 in national events in Britain, taking 23 victories over three seasons, among them the Jersey International and the Wakefield Trophy.
Stewart was one of the founders of the Ecurie Ecosse team. The colour in which he had resprayed his XK120 became the team's colour, and the team's badge is also down to him. He finished second in the team's first race at Charterhall. He also drove for Jaguar at Le Mans.
His only World Championship race was the 1953 British Grand Prix, where he started in a Connaught and retired with an ignition failure. After a crash in the 1954 Argentine 1000 km race, he retired from racing.
