Biography
Hubert Hahne was born in Moers in 1935 and died in 2019. In touring car racing he won the European Touring Car Championship in 1966 in a BMW 2000TI. That same year, in a support race at the German Grand Prix, he became the first driver to lap the Nürburgring in a touring car in under ten minutes, with a time of 9:58.5.
In Formula One he started three World Championship races between 1966 and 1968, first for Matra and then for Lola. At the 1967 German Grand Prix he drove a Lola with a Formula Two chassis and a two-litre BMW engine, and retired on lap seven with suspension failure. The following year he finished tenth in the same car. In 1969 he withdrew from the German Grand Prix before the start after the fatal accident of his team-mate Gerhard Mitter. In 1970 he failed to qualify a March 701 for the race at Hockenheim and then ended his racing career.
