Günther
Seiffert
Biography
Günther Seiffert was born in Oldenburg on 18 October 1937 and was a racing driver. He made just one entry in the Formula One World Championship, at the 1962 German Grand Prix, driving a Lotus run by Wolfgang Seidel's team. He shared the car with Seidel, but it failed to qualify, so Seiffert never started a World Championship race.
In 1962 and 1963 he also took part in a number of non-Championship Formula One races, mostly for Seidel's team. He generally qualified at the back of the grid and, when he did finish, it was usually at the back of the field as well. At the 1962 Lavant Cup he collided with John Surtees early in the race, while Surtees was lapping him. His best result came in his final Formula One event, the 1963 Austrian Grand Prix, where he finished seventh, though twelve laps down.
Günther Seiffert died on 11 November 2020, aged 83.
