Biography
Eugene Robert Force, known as Gene, was born on 15 June 1916 in New Madison, Ohio. The American raced in the AAA and USAC Championship Car series, making 33 starts across the 1951, 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1958 to 1960 seasons. He finished in the top ten 16 times, including three third places.
From 1950 to 1960 the Indianapolis 500 counted towards the Formula One World Championship. Force started this race in 1951 and 1960, both times in a Kurtis Kraft, and scored no championship points. In 1960 he drove a Kurtis Kraft 500J owned by Roy McKay of Dayton, Ohio. That car survives in largely original condition and has been restored. Gene Force died on 21 August 1983 in Brooklyn, Michigan.
