Biography

Australian Gary Brabham was born in Wimbledon in 1961. He is the son of three-time World Champion Jack Brabham and the brother of Geoff and David Brabham. He grew up racing Formula Ford in Australia and Britain and made his racing debut in 1982. In 1983 he moved to Europe, first contesting British Formula Ford 2000 and then British Formula 3 from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 he won four races and finished second behind JJ Lehto. A year later he took four wins on the way to the inaugural British Formula 3000 title.

In 1990 Brabham was entered for two Grands Prix with the Life team, at Phoenix and in Brazil. He failed to prequalify on both occasions and never started a race. The team never got through prequalifying at any point that season. Brabham left it afterwards and spent the rest of the year in Formula 3000 with Middlebridge.

In 1991 he shared a Nissan with Geoff Brabham and Derek Daly to win the Sebring 12 Hours, the crew having started from pole position. In 1992 he finished second there with Geoff Brabham, Daly and Arie Luyendyk. He raced in CART in 1993 and 1994, becoming the first Australian to start the Gold Coast Indy race. He retired from racing in 1995 and went on to work as a driver trainer.
