Biography
Fred Wacker was born in Chicago on 10 July 1918. The American was an engineer and a racing driver. In the Formula One World Championship he was entered for Gordini in 1953 and 1954. In 1953 he was entered for three races and started one, and in 1954 he started both races for which he was entered. That made three starts in total, and he scored no points. He also took part in several Formula One races that did not count towards the championship.
At the 1952 Watkins Glen Grand Prix, which was then run on a street circuit, Wacker was involved in an accident on the second lap in his Allard J2. A child among the spectators was killed and other spectators were injured. The tragedy brought an end to street racing at Watkins Glen and elsewhere in the United States. Wacker died on 16 June 1998.
