Biography
Eugène Chaboud was born in Lyon on 12 April 1907. He took part in his first car race in 1936, aged 29, in a Delahaye sports car. In 1937 he started the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside his mentor Jean Trémoulet, but the pair did not finish. The following year they won the race in a Delahaye. In 1939 Chaboud won the Paris-Nice road race for Ecurie France, and in 1946 he took victory in the Belgian Grand Prix at Bois de la Cambre driving a Delage.
Once Formula One had been introduced, he drove a Talbot-Lago T26 in a number of races in 1950 and 1951, including three World Championship rounds: two in 1950 and one in 1951. A fifth place at the French Grand Prix earned him a championship point, and he ended the 1950 standings in 20th place. He retired from racing after a crash in his Talbot-Lago T26 at the race in Le Mans in 1952. Chaboud died on 28 December 1983.
