Biography
Ettore Chimeri was born in Lodi, Italy, on 4 June 1921. His family later settled in Venezuela. A gentleman driver, he took part in races in Venezuela, including the Venezuelan Grand Prix in Caracas, and later competed internationally in sports cars and single-seaters.
He made one start in the Formula One World Championship, the Argentine Grand Prix on 7 February 1960. Driving his own Maserati 250F, he qualified 14th and retired after 37 of 95 laps with electrical trouble. This made him the first Venezuelan to take part in a Formula One Grand Prix. He scored no points.
On 27 February 1960, Chimeri died after an accident while practising for the Gran Premio Libertad sports car race in Havana, in which he was driving a Ferrari 250TR.
