Biography

Esteban Tuero was born in Buenos Aires on 22 April 1978. His father also raced, and Esteban started karting at the age of seven. In 1994 he won the Formula Honda title in Argentina. He moved to Europe in 1995 and won the Italian Formula 2000 National Trophy. In 1996 he raced in Italian Formula 3 with Coloni and then in Formula 3000 with Draco, followed by Japanese Formula Nippon in 1997. He was also a test driver for Minardi.

In 1998 he took a full race seat at Minardi alongside Shinji Nakano. Aged 19 at the start of the season, he was then the third-youngest driver in Formula One history. He qualified 17th in Australia, and his best finish was 8th at the San Marino Grand Prix. He started all 16 races but scored no points. His Japanese Grand Prix ended on lap 29 in a collision with Toranosuke Takagi. Before the 1999 season began, he announced he was leaving Formula One.

Back in Argentina he joined the TC2000 touring car series, where he won two races in a Volkswagen Polo. In 2008 he took part in some rounds of the FIA GT Championship in a Ferrari 550-GTS Maranello. He ended his racing career after the 2016 TC2000 season.
