Ernesto
Viso
Biography
Ernesto Viso was born in Caracas in 1985. He began karting in 1993 and in 2001 moved into US Barber Formula Dodge East, winning the championship. He then raced in British Formula Renault and, from 2003, in British Formula 3, where he took the B-Class title. In 2004 he competed in the main class for P1 before finishing the year in Formula 3000 with Durango.
In 2005 he took part in the first GP2 Series season with BCN Competicion. In 2006 he drove for iSport and won the Sunday races at San Marino and in Spain. That year he also drove the third Spyker MF1 car in the Friday practice sessions of the Brazilian Grand Prix, but he never started a Formula One race. In 2007 he took over Sérgio Jimenez's seat at Racing Engineering in GP2.
Viso moved to the IndyCar Series in 2008 with HVM Racing. He finished fourth at St. Petersburg and ended the season eighteenth overall. He drove for KV Racing in 2010 and 2011. In 2011 he again finished eighteenth in the standings, with four top-ten results and a best of seventh at Texas. In 2013 he raced for Andretti Autosport, took fourth place at Milwaukee and finished fifteenth in the championship.
He found no IndyCar seat in 2014. In May, Andretti Autosport called him in for practice for the Indianapolis 500 while James Hinchcliffe recovered from injury. Viso drove the first four days of practice and topped the timesheets on the third day before Hinchcliffe returned. That year he also made his Stadium Super Trucks debut, finishing second at Long Beach, winning several races at Detroit and one at Coronado, and ending the season fifth in the standings.
