Biography
Enrique Bernoldi was born in Curitiba on 19 October 1978. In karting he won the Brazilian championship in 1990 and 1991. At sixteen he moved to Europe, won the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 title and then moved up to British Formula Three. There he finished fifth in 1997 and runner-up to fellow Brazilian Mario Haberfeld in 1998. In 1999 and 2000 he raced in International Formula 3000 with the Red Bull Junior Team, finishing 18th and 16th in the standings.
Bernoldi made his Formula One debut with Arrows in 2001, partnering Jos Verstappen. He started all 17 races, and his best result was eighth at the German Grand Prix. At Monaco he kept David Coulthard's faster McLaren stuck behind him for 35 laps. In 2002 he raced alongside Heinz-Harald Frentzen and passed Michael Schumacher at Sepang. Arrows withdrew from the championship during the season, and Bernoldi made eleven starts that year. In total he started 28 Grands Prix without scoring a championship point.
After Formula One he competed in the World Series by Nissan, finishing sixth in 2003 and third in 2004, with two wins in each season. From 2004 to 2006 he was test driver for BAR, later Honda. In 2008 he drove for Conquest Racing in the IndyCar Series, where his best result in the reunified series was 15th in the Indianapolis 500. From 2009 to 2011 he raced in the FIA GT championships, and in 2010 he took a pole position and won his home race at Interlagos. He retired from racing in 2015. His son Bernardo is also a racing driver.
