Biography
Ed Elisian was born in Oakland on 9 December 1926 and was an American racing driver who competed mainly in the National Championship. Between 1954 and 1958 he started five races in the Formula One World Championship, all of them the Indianapolis 500, which counted towards the drivers' championship in those years. He drove a Stevens in 1954, a Kurtis Kraft from 1955 to 1957 and a Watson in 1958.
During the 1955 Indianapolis 500 he stopped his undamaged car to help Bill Vukovich after Vukovich's crash, and he received a sportsmanship award for it. In 1958 he started from the front row. He spun on the opening lap, which led to a multi-car accident in which Pat O'Connor lost his life. Elisian died on 30 August 1959 in a crash during a race at the Milwaukee Mile.
