Biography
Dempsey Wilson was born in Los Angeles on 11 March 1927. He started out on short tracks in Southern California, driving roadsters before moving on to midgets and stock cars. He also raced in the USAC Championship Car series, taking part in 32 races across several seasons between 1956 and 1969. His best result there was eighth place at Milwaukee in 1960.
The Indianapolis 500 counted towards the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960. Wilson started the race in a Kuzma in 1958 and in a Kurtis Kraft in 1960, which gave him two World Championship starts. He did not score any points. He also drove at Indianapolis in 1961 and 1963, when the race was no longer part of the championship. Wilson died on 23 April 1971.
