Biography
Dave Morgan (David Rowland John Morgan) was born in Cranmore on 7 August 1944. The British driver raced a Mini in the mid-1960s and soon moved up to Formula Three. At the end of 1970 he was banned for twelve months for dangerous driving after colliding with James Hunt at the final corner at Crystal Palace, but he was permitted to move up to Formula Atlantic in 1971. Two seasons in Formula Two followed, then a return to Formula Atlantic.
His only World Championship race was the 1975 British Grand Prix, driving a Surtees. In the closing laps he crashed in a storm, as did several other drivers, and he was classified 18th, without scoring points. He then stopped racing for a time, before competing in the British Saloon Car Championship in 1980 and 1981 in a Mitsubishi Colt Lancer. He later worked as an engineer for Eric van de Poele in Formula One and Formula 3000. Morgan died on 6 November 2018.
