Biography
Consalvo Sanesi was born on 28 March 1911 in Terranuova Bracciolini, Italy. He became known as the Alfa Romeo works test driver in the years after the Second World War. Even before the Formula One World Championship began, he raced the Alfa Romeo 158/159.
He made his World Championship debut in September 1950. He started five championship races for Alfa Romeo, one in 1950 and four in 1951, and finished twelfth in the 1951 drivers' standings. He also raced sports cars until the middle of the 1960s. On the 1953 Mille Miglia he set the fastest stage average speed, 181.5 km/h (112.8 mph), quicker than Nino Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio, but he did not reach the finish. In 1954 he won his class in the Carrera Panamericana.
At the 1964 12 Hours of Sebring, Sanesi had a serious accident in his Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ, which caught fire. Fellow driver Jocko Maggiacomo pulled him out of the flames. Sanesi then withdrew from top-level racing. He died on 28 July 1998.
