Biography
Christian Goethals was born in Heule, Belgium, on 4 August 1928. During the 1950s he raced sports cars as an amateur in a Porsche Spyder. In 1956 he finished second with his brother in the 1500cc class event at Reims, and in 1957 he won the same class at Forez.
In 1958 he acquired a Cooper-Climax and set up a team, Écurie Éperon d'Or, to enter the German Grand Prix in the Formula Two class. He retired from the race, which remained his only World Championship start. He then went back to sports cars, finishing fifth in the Buenos Aires 1000 km and second in the GP de Spa in 1960. He stopped racing later that season. Goethals died on 26 February 2003.
